As part of our commitment to accurately and inclusively connect Global Questions to Human Answers, Lucid has added an alternate way to ask respondents their gender using the standard qualification GENDER_PLUS.
To create more inclusive profiling in relevant countries, GENDER_PLUS includes a third option ("Other") in addition to "Male" and "Female". This third option is mapped by suppliers according to the non-binary identities reported directly by respondents. It can similarly be mapped in the end survey according to non-binary options that are provided in the survey.
As you transition your surveys to use GENDER_PLUS profiling, here are some tips and tricks on how to use and not to use this new gender qualification to ensure a positive experience for respondents, and avoid mapping issues with your survey.
The third option ("Other") should never be used to disqualify respondents.
This applies to both terminations and quotas.
GENDER_PLUS should not be used simultaneously with the binary GENDER qualification on a single survey.
This would create a mismatch in response options.
If your end-survey has a binary gender question ("Male" and "Female" options only), you should continue to use the binary GENDER qualification to avoid mismapped respondents.
Consider working with clients to move towards including a non-binary response option for future surveys.
In your end-survey, consider adding an "Other: Please specify" open end to give respondents the ability to self-identify.
